Our multi-talented gardener Andrew is also responsible for outdoor education – running forest schools and fossil walks on the magnificent Jurassic Coast on the doorstep of our wonderful Dorset property. We find out more about Andrew and the activities he organises.

Lamb are one of the earliest signs that spring has arrived - and the lambing season is now underway at Ickworth Estate, home to our Ickworth Hotel, with the farmers there anticipating the arrival of more than 1,000 lambs. Go for a family walk and see how many you can count - you may be lucky and see some of them take their first steps in the park.
After a recent stay at our Fowey Hall Hotel, Hermione Norris, star of ITV’s Cold Feet, said: ‘When I was young it was Cornwall, Wales and Devon for family holidays… A week in the UK with sandy sandwiches, building dens, free entertainment with a bucket and spade, Cornish pasties and family chaos. It was a lovely, wholesome experience. And I want that for my own children.’
Indeed, there’s a vast amount to do in our Cornwall hotels and on their doorstep. But Fowey Hall and the Polurrian Bay Hotel also provide great bases for families to enjoy the annual events that the region does so well. Here are some of our top choices this year.
Holidays are a great opportunity to stop and have some well-deserved ‘me time’, but as parents we often get stuck in the habit of putting other people’s needs before our own. We asked Kim Morgan of Barefoot Coaching to share her secrets for successful family holidays and breaks.
Easter is a great time for a UK staycation with kids, whether the weather chooses to be your friend or not. Many seasonal attractions reopen for the year but offer both indoor and outdoor activities so you can take refuge from any inclement spells, while those with lovely grounds are the perfect spot for Easter egg hunts. This is also a great time of year to visit a farm-park, as many will be home to lambs and chicks guaranteed to elicit delighted ooohs and aaaahs from your own brood.
We've handpicked the most tempting days out with kids in areas handy for Luxury Family Hotels for Easter 2017, but look out for seasonal events and activities within your hotel too, including the Den kids' clubs.
Our two lovely hotels in Cornwall, Fowey Hall and the Polurrian Bay, are perfectly placed for exploring this most delightful of British regions. They've also become very popular with the ‘bonus break’ set – parents who take full advantage of the school holidays by not only booking an annual summer trip abroad but also a ‘bonus holiday’ in the UK. Cornwall is perfect for the kind of British holidays many parents experienced while growing up, giving them a sense of nostalgia and a chance to share childhood memories with their offspring.
Here are our top reasons to come to Britain's much-loved south-west corner this summer.
All mums are different, but when a random sample of mothers were asked what they'd really like for Mother’s Day, a kind of consensus emerged. The most frequent responses were, in no particular order: a night in a luxury hotel, the invention of calorie-free chocolate, a cleaning fairy, a magic cure for wrinkles, more sleep and unlimited amounts of time…
We all love a luxury weekend break. But it’s not always possible – or we don’t always want to – leave the kids behind, especially when they're tiny and routines are the backbone of their existence. Perhaps you’re not emotionally ready to leave them either, even for just one night, or perhaps you’re still breast-feeding.
Happily, Luxury Family Hotels come to the rescue…
Once you’ve arrived, it’s hard venturing outside our cosy, child-friendly hotels. The Elms in Worcestershire, for instance, has plenty to keep you occupied indoors and out, including a swimming pool and spa, tennis, a trampoline, croquet, rounders, swingball, football nets and even a fairy trail through the woods, plus a library, board games, DVD loan, a weekend cinema, a den and a crèche.
That said, The Elms is also very well located for exploring the lovely surrounding area, from the rural Teme Valley to further afield. The following are our top tips for days out and day-trips in the region in the 2017 February half-term and Easter holidays.
Bear in mind that dates and times are subject to change so make sure to check websites or call ahead.
With Valentine's Day falling at the start of half term for many people in 2017, most parents will be with their kids for the most romantic weekend of the year. Polurrian Bay Hotel provides the perfect coastal setting for a Valentine’s break with children in tow.
With two properties in Cornwall, we love this part of the world not only in the heavenly summer months but all year round, when it has different but to our eyes equal charms. While February half term isn’t the obvious time to visit this region best known for its beaches and surfing, there are plenty of reasons to come out of season. We’ve listed our favourites in the main 2017 February half term (week commencing 13th February).
