Best Spring Festivals and Days Out in Cornwall for 2016
Spring is a fantastic time to for a family break in Cornwall - free of crowds yet busy with all kind of seasonal festivals and events. We’ve picked our top recommendations for 2016 within easy reach of our Polurrian Bay and Fowey Hall hotels.
Easter weekend this year falls on the 25-28th March, with some schools breaking up for the Easter school holiday on the 24th, and others beginning the school break on 1st April and returning to school on the 18th. Both of our Cornwall hotels are hosting an array of Easter activities for kids in their OFSTED-registered crèches and kids’ clubs, such as chick-cake baking, sock-bunny making and egg hunts.

Falmouth Spring Festival, 10-28th March
This celebration of the port town’s green spaces involves guided walks and talks including seashore foraging, a folk and cider fair, beach cleans and a free family games day (12th March).
Oyster Gathering & Cornish Produce Festival, Falmouth, 25-27th March
This intimate local gathering lets you join local oyster-men on their final weekend of the season and try out seafood dishes cooked up by well-known chefs.
Easter Eggstravaganza, Eden Project, 25th March-10th April
Always a good bet for a family day out, this plant-themed visitor attraction pulls out all the stops at Easter, with an egg-and-spoon race over a giant inflatable obstacle course, egg hunts, traditional fairground games involving eggs, and chocolate-themed storytelling.
Truro Festival, 2nd-9th April
This culture and music festival embraces theatre, film, literature, dance, comedy and more in venues over the city. Family events include comic book and manga workshops and puppet shows.
Cornwall Spring Flower Show, Boconnoc Estate, 2nd/3rd April
In a region famous for its gardens, this event welcomes in the new season with a colourful display of camellias, daffodils and rhododendrons, plus show gardens, trade stands and competitions.
Porthleven Food Festival, 16/17th April
Taking over the pretty harbour town, the lively event includes all-day cooking demos, food and craft stalls, music, dancing and a kids’ area.
Charity Garden Open Weekend, Tregothnan, 16/17th April
Cornwall’s largest historic garden, situated on the banks of the River Fal, opens for a single weekend to give visitors a glimpse of its impressive array of tree species and its rare plant collections.
English National Surfing Championships, Newquay, 30th April-2nd May
Now in its 43rd year, one of the longest-running competitions in the UK pits young surfers against established names.
