Celebrating the Harvest Season with Luxury Family Hotels
Our Wiltshire and Cornwall hotels are great places to head this September and October for foodies keen to join in with one of the UK’s longest-standing traditions and celebrate local produce in unique ways.
This year, our Woolley Grange Hotel in Wiltshire is proud to be involved with the Great Bath Feast, a 15-day celebration of local produce that bills itself the ‘ultimate harvest festival’.
Celebrating its fifth birthday and running from Saturday 23rd September to Sunday 8th October, the event offers up the best regional flavours from everyone from celebrity chefs to artisan producers. Woolley’s Sunday Harvest Lunch on 24th September will incorporate the best of the harvest from its wonderful kitchen garden, followed by family fun and games on the lawn.
Alternatively, head to Woolley on 21st October for our annual Apple Pressing Day in the Good Life Garden, when all the family can help press fruits ripe from the orchard to make Woolley Apple Juice. Coffee and apple cake will be in ample supply.
Meanwhile, the Cornish have long had a close relationship with the harvest season, and in recent years, Penzance and various other locations around the region have revived the late-September festival of Guldize. Visitors are welcomed (and invited to bring instruments and dancing shoes, and perhaps wear leaf and berry decorations) to Penzance’s harvest procession of the 'neck’, named for the ceremony of Crying the Neck, which involved creating a corn dolly to preside over the harvest feast. At the feast itself you can bid to buy outsize/odd-shaped vegetables and other produce.
Our Cornwall property, Fowey Hall Hotel, is a great place for a September family break, after the summer crowds (and high-season prices) have gone.
