Dungeon Dining: a Unique New Offering at Thornbury Castle
Staying in a Tudor castle is a remarkable experience in its own right. But Thornbury Castle has taken things to the next level by offering private dining in its 16th-century dungeon – a must for adventurous diners looking for a very special and intimate experience.
The dungeon is also home to the luxury hotel's bonded wine cellar with its award-winning collection of bottles from some of the world's best artisan wine-makers and estates. To accompany a menu of sensational dishes from our chef, our talented sommelier will recommend wines to suit every palate and pocket.
Our decadent candlelit cellar dining is fantastic for romantic meals, family celebrations and business meals alike – the maximum party size is eight people. Guests are advised to bring a sweater or jumper as the cellar must remain at a constant temperature for the upkeep of our wines.
Adding to the atmosphere of this unique venue is the presence of a Victorian tunnel that starts at the entrance to the dungeon and runs under the courtyard, coming up by the castle well – probably the remnant of an underground passageway between the castle and St Mary's Church.
A three-course meal in the dungeon with matched wines starts at £65 per person.
