Getting into the Swing with Luxury Family Hotels: Tennis in 2014
With Wimbledon 2014 upon us, some of the Luxury Family Hotels group are gearing up for a summer of tennis-related fun, with everything from free tuition to strawberries-and-cream themed spa treatments available to our guests…
In Dorset, Moonfleet Manor Hotel is offering free tennis coaching for budding players, with Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon providing the superb backdrop for a game. Moonfleet's courts can be booked at any time; the free coaching is available from 10am to 1pm each Sunday from 6th July to 31st August, with additional sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays in the summer holidays. The sessions are run by coaches from Weymouth Tennis Club and are split by age category.
There's more tennis with a view at the clifftop Polurrian Bay Hotel on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall. In this stunning spot, distractions from your match might include passing pods of dolphins and basking sharks in Mounts Bay and the Atlantic beyond. For refuelling, there are Cornish cream teas and chilled Pimms on the Polurrian's Vista Terrace.
Alternatively, visit The Ickworth Hotel on its magnificent 18th-century National Trust estate in Suffolk over the weekend of 28th June to get a feel for the style of the tennis parties of one-time residents the Earls of Bristol, at the NT's Living History ‘Tennis Party’ event. Court and racquets are available for guest use at any time (courts can be pre-booked).
Or for those who want to avoid too much exertion this summer, New Park Manor in Hampshire is offering a strawberries and cream full body scrub/polish accompanied by full use of the spa facilities, a glass of Pimms and afternoon tea.
