Happy Halloween at Luxury Family Hotels: Activities and Inspiration from our Dens
Autumn is one of our favourite times of year at Luxury Family Hotels – perfect for crisp walks, leaf stomping and conker gathering, and of course for all the fiendish fun of Halloween…
Staff from our OFSTED-registered ‘dens’ lay on a creepy selection of very special seasonal activities for our younger guests and for families, including the likes of witchy scarecrow making, ferocious face painting, perfect pumpkin carving, marshmallow toasting, scary mask-making, gingerbread skeleton cooking, cress-head mummy-making, haunted nature trails, apple-bobbing, lantern-making and Bonfire Night crafts. We’d love to see you and your family at in the one of our family-friendly hotels, but in the meantime, we’ve shared Woolley Grange's recipe for a nightmarishly good ice scream sundae.
A tub of ice cream/frozen yogurt
Puréed berries for fake blood (or use shop-brought strawberry sauce)
Chocolate or candy eyeballs – or frozen blueberries for a no-added-sugar version
Candy bones, teeth/fangs or other body parts (try hancocks.co.uk)
Place two large scopes of ice cream or frozen yogurt into sundae dishes and add an eyeball to each, then streak the ice cream with ‘blood’ purée squeezed from a plastic sandwich bag with a whole cut in one corner (or with strawberry sauce from a bottle).
Add edible body parts as desired. For extra gory effect, complete with ‘sprinkles’ of gummy worms and a few fake insects.
For an healthy alternative, scoop out a watermelon and carve eyes, a nose and a mouth just as you would a pumpkin, then fill the mouth with chopped fruit and adorn ghoulishly as desired – perhaps with a chocolate eyeball and a gummy worm slithering out of the other eye socket.
