New Family Adventures at Luxury Family Hotels in 2017
We’re excited to announce a whole range of new activities that families can experience at or near our properties in the new year, in the hope of helping parents re-ignite those treasured childhood memories of playing outdoors and letting younger guests access all that unspoilt nature offers, from lungfuls of fresh air to encounters with wildlife.
• Forest School and Fossil Hunting at Moonfleet Manor
At last, a school that kids will want to attend! Young adventurers will explore the woodland behind our Dorset hotel and take part in wild activities including bug-hunting, toasting marshmallows and den-building.
Meanwhile, palaeontologist and Moonfleet Manor resident gardener Andrew Lawrence leads fossil hunts along the shores of the Fleet Lagoon, talking about the history of the Jurassic Coast and helping kids hunt (99% of people find a fossil to keep!).
• Boat Trips at Fowey Hall Hotel
Those staying at our northern Cornwall property can take a 45-minute glass-bottom boat trip around Looe Island to see the caves, seabirds and perhaps even a seal or two.
• Cycling in the New Forest from New Park Manor
The new bikes at our Hampshire hotel are ideal for exploring the many forest trails on its very doorstep. There are bike seats, tag-along bikes and a trailer to borrow, and the hotel also provides maps, helmets and even puncture repair kits! Families can go on a scavenger hunt amidst the ancient oaks, paddle in streams and dangle from rope-swings.
• Canal Adventures and Horse-riding from Woolley Grange Hotel
Our Wiltshire property is just a 15-minute walk from the historic market town of Bradford on Avon, where you can hire bikes, canoes or a narrowboat to pedal, row or putter along the scenic canal towards Bath 15 kilometres away. Replenish your energy levels with a picnic from the hotel, or enjoy one of the many lovely cafés or pubs along the way. There is also horse-riding at Widbrook just up the road.
• Wildlife Spotting at The Ickworth
Our Suffolk property is unique in that it has direct access to 1,800 acres of glorious National Trust parkland, full of deer and birds to spot. There are plenty of family adventures to be had on foot, scooters or the hotel’s bikes, plus an adventure playground with a zip wire, slides, maze and swings.
And while there’s plenty of enjoyment to be had in the great outdoors, because we know that the British weather is unpredictable, there’s masses to do indoors at our hotels too. For example, Moonfleet Manor has a new Slack-Line Challenge – a tightrope for adults and kids – in its indoor play barn, as well as a six-metre beanbag bunny for our VILPs (very important little people!) to hop around on. Each of Luxury Family Hotels except Thornbury Castle organises daily craft sessions in its Den, an OFSTED-registered crèche and kids’ club that is also open to parents to come along and play with their children outside booked session times.
Plus with books, games and toys provided for children of all ages, swimming pools, DVDs to borrow and two hours’ free childcare each day, rainy days are still guaranteed to be action-packed.
