Romantic Breaks with Kids: a How-to Guide
Romance doesn't have to go out of the window once you've had children – you just need to be a bit smarter about finding ways to fit it in. And that goes for breaks away from home, too – just because you can't get an overnight sitter or simply can't bear to leave your offspring behind doesn't mean that you can't celebrate Valentine's Day or book yourselves a romantic weekend away at any time of year.
It's all about planning and doing your research. Finding a hotel with an OFSTED-registered crèche and a spa means you can grab some quality 'us' time knowing that your kids are being more than ably looked after and entertained. Best of all is a hotel also offering children's high teas and baby-listening (which works via the telephone system), so you can have a leisurely dinner in the restaurant without having to pay for a babysitter.
Some of the Luxury Family Hotels have made those who want to celebrate Valentine's Day with the kids in tow child's play. For instance, Polurrian Bay in Cornwall is offering a 2-night Valentine’s Weekend package including a Den session for kids while parents have a spa treatment or relax in the Vista Lounge, and a kids' disco or movie showing supervised by the Den staff while you enjoy complimentary amuse-bouches and dinner. On the Sunday morning, parents with kids aged 3 or up can even get a lie-in (remember those?!) while they dine with the hotel's Breakfast Club.
Alternatively, if you are intent on leaving the kids at home, The Ickworth is running a Hearts and Roses Valentine’s Weekend, New Park Manor is offering a Golden Spa Romance package, and Thornbury Castle has a Romantic Weekend Escape.
