Wine on the Beach near Fowey Hall
Oenophiles staying at our Fowey Hall Hotel in Cornwall this June are in for an added treat with the chance to take part in English Wine Week tastings on Carlyon Beach, less than 20 minutes’ drive away, followed by dinner and a bonfire.
The event is organised and run by local wine expert Clio Collar, who will be serving up a selection of English wines from her ‘Van du Vin’ directly on the beach, while sharing her knowledge about the main grape varieties and styles of wines produced in England and how the climate influences grape growing.
Six types of wine will be tasted, including two sparkling wines made using the Champenoise method. After the tastings, there’ll be a beach bonfire and pop-up food stalls by local businesses Ostraca and Sam’s.
From 1920 to World War II, Carlyon Bay housed the New Cornish Riviera Lido and extensive sports facilities. The 1950s saw the opening of the Cornwall Coliseum, with exhibitions, tennis tournaments and big-name concerts. Current development plans include restaurants, bars, cafés, shops, and a spa and leisure facilities.
Tickets for the tasting, which takes place on 4 June, are available via the Cornish Riviera Box Office. Outdoor events will continue at Carlyon Beach throughout the summer, among them the launch of Britain's first beach-based disc golf course, theatre performances and beach banquets with pop-up food traders.
